Healthy Homes

You may be asking yourself what we mean by “Healthier”. We would like to take a few moments to give a brief overview of what we mean. We want to point out that this is just a partial list of products that we use and a brief overview of what we do to make a home “Healthier”. By no means is this a guide to be used by the novice to try and create a “healthier” home. Many precautions are taken on each site to maintain a clean contamination free home; we have a well trained staff that follows many steps to maintain the ideal environment.

To create a healthier home we use many less toxic and non-toxic building materials. Most people who are looking to build a home or even buy a new home do not realize the amount of toxicity that normal everyday building products contain. For example most builders today use OSB (Oriented strand board), particle board, or chip board, instead of plywood, to keep costs down. What you don’t know about this product is that it is made with glue that off gasses for a long time and has been known to make certain people ill. If it gets wet it expands and is weakened thus possibly causing dry rot damage. Many tiles that are used in bathrooms and kitchens contain lead, not in large amounts but it is still in the tile itself. Up to 120 toxic chemicals can be used in the manufacturing process of carpets. Most of these chemicals have an off gassing life span that is unknown at this time.

Please once again keep in mind this is a very short, incomplete list of what we will or will not do what we do is not just about materials it is also about technique. We have spent over a decade working with people and gathering knowledge. This is not a guide to be used. Each person has different needs and different illnesses. What affects one person and makes them ill, may be fine for another. No house is standard. We work very closely with each client customizing the materials to suit each case. Please keep this in mind if you are interested in making your home a safer, less toxic environment.
